Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation International Fellowships at USA is provided by the University of Washington to students who have enrolled themselves for a postgraduate course at the University.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants can be both domestic or international students.
  • Applicants must have an offer letter for a PhD course in subjects related to humanities and social sciences, concerning ethical or religious values to avail of the scholarship from the university.
  • Applicants working on D.Min., JD, Psy.D., Ed.D., and other professional degrees are not eligible.
  • Applicants must have completed all pre-dissertation requirements fulfilled by the application deadline, including approval of the dissertation proposal.
  • Applicants must have never held a similar national award for the final year of dissertation writing.

Application Process:

  • All eligible candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship.
  • In the first round, the candidates must furnish the following information:
    • Basic demographics and contact information,
    • Description of the project’s engagement with religion, ethics, or values,
    • Description of the candidate’s career goals,
    • Personal statement,
    • Description of the project including abstract, design and methodology, timeline, and short proposal,
    • Name and Contact information for two recommenders,
    • Curriculum Vitae,
    • Transcripts (official or unofficial).
  • The finalists are required to submit the following documents:
    • A full proposal,
    • Two letters of recommendation.

Value of the Fellowship:

The fellowship provides the following benefits:

  • USD 31,000 for 12 months of full-time dissertation writing,
  • Fellows’ graduate schools will be asked to waive tuition and fees while maintaining health insurance for Newcombe Fellows.
